Campus: Harvey Hall

UW – Stout

Harvey Hall needed to meet the growing needs of modern-day infrastructure, design and technology, and our goal was to create a state-of-the-art academic center within the historic structure. A hard-working interior capable of handling the demands of today’s tech-savvy students was designed while preserving the original facade, adhering to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Places.

The 100-year-old envelope of the building was left intact on all primary elevations, with a three-story addition that was strategically positioned to minimize its visual impact on the original exterior. In addition, a roof top penthouse was located in the middle of the roof and lowered into the attic space in order to reduce its presence when viewed from the ground level. The historic exterior was restored in its entirety while the interior was completely renovated in order to satisfy the need for progressive learning environments and adaptable offices.
