UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN - WING TECHNOLOGY CENTER
La Crosse, Wisconsin
The project involves a complete building update of the Wing Communication Center, which was originally constructed in 1956 as the campus library. The work includes total remodeling of the original 60,845 square feet and the addition of 17,645 square feet. The goal is to create a campus hub for Information Technology and provide a home base for selected academic departments, such as Educational Technologies, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Communication Studies, and the Photography studios of the Art Department. A significant emphasis of the design is to support advanced Distance Learning opportunities and connectedness to the La Crosse region and beyond.

The solution retains the original north and south entrances into the building and then totally revamps the circulation and layout on all the floors. New additions are added to the building at the northwest and southeast corners to meet program objectives.

The main hallways are designed in a curvilinear way to offset the angular building grid and enhance the movement experience. A curved metal wing colonnade is introduced at the front elevation to highlight the entrance and softly transition the building closer to historic Graff Main Hall. Projecting aluminum sun screens are added over the south elevation windows to incorporate cool daylighting principals into the building.
