Civic: Hatch Public Library

Mauston, WI

The prime downtown location faces the intersection of two major highways and slopes down to a city park and the Lemonweir River. The new building provides a 14,900 square foot, single level library space at the State Street level, for the library’s current needs; with a walk-out unfinished lower level that faces the park for future expansion.

The open plan provides for one point central supervision. Additional features of the library include a large multi-purpose room which can be used independently of the library, a drive-up book drop that is accessed off the staff workroom, a computer lab, and genealogy research room. Expansive north facing windows afford views of the park and river from the reading lounge. The building includes a clock tower to highlight the library as a community focal point and a front porch to welcome the library patrons.
