The STAR (Sport Therapeutic Adaptive Recreation) Center in La Crosse will fill a void in our area for recreation and rehabilitation based on fitness and wellness equity, offered outside of a medical setting. The facility will offer leading-edge adaptive and assistive equipment, designed for all in an effort to achieve health equity – removing physical and social barriers to optimal health. The STAR Center will offer a full range of athletic and recreational options, including a specially equipped indoor track, basketball courts, therapeutic pools, strength and cardio gym with adaptive equipment, all specially designed for use by those with disabilities, chronic conditions and/or those recovering from strokes or accidents. River Architects is collaborating with KPF of New York on this design.
The center will offer social and community-building opportunities for all users, and thanks to the innovative universal-access design concepts, no user will be disadvantaged by physical limitations.
