This new 7,375-square-foot food co-op featuring local organics was built to replace an existing, smaller facility. The design solution for the client was to build an environmentally-sensitive facility to serve its over 1,000 members. Incorporated into the design was the use of sustainable materials and day-lighting. The building features many green elements including polished concrete floors, which don’t require chemicals to clean or adhesives to install, natural lighting throughout the entire building, recycled denim insulation, which is free of fiberglass and formaldehyde, and interior paints free of volatile organic compounds. The building sits on a predominant corner that was a former Brownfield site in downtown Viroqua, giving new life to the surrounding neighborhood.
