The opportunity to preserve a 19th Century courthouse and equip it for use in the 21st Century does not come along often. The restoration and remodeling of the historic Vernon County Courthouse addresses changes required by enactment of the Americans with Disabilities Act, along with new security provisions outlined in the U.S. Marshals Service Report in June of 1995.
While accessibility and security were key to the project, the complete interior remodeling also included the creation of secure storage for court documents, improvements to the way-finding system of the building, an increased capacity for technology, and enhanced comfort by way of additional restrooms and amenities for courthouse users. The project also included the restoration and unveiling of the historic upper courtroom. When completed, the total project cost will be under the budget approved by the County Board.
