Michael W. Swinghamer, AIA
Principal
Mike grew up in a small rural town in Wisconsin and, even at a young age, he had an interest in architecture. He received an Associate Architectural Commercial Design degree from Northwood Technical College and completed his architectural studies at the University of Minnesota. Just after completing his architectural studies and working at two award-winning firms in the Twin Cities, Mike began his career at River Architects. In 1997, he became a principal and in four decades at the firm, Mike has had the opportunity to design a host of amazing projects.
Always compelled by residential architecture, he enjoys the opportunity to genuinely understand his clients’ aspirations of home. Larger projects provide excitement, too, and require a broader perspective, like working on the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe or the Altra Federal Credit Union Corporate Campus.
Outside of the studio, Mike has a wide range of interests including all types of sports, enjoying nature, and spending time with family and friends.
