Campus: Engineering Building

UW – Platteville

The concept emerged from a program-driven plan response that was shaped by the site’s topographical features and sustainable design principles. The three-level, 113,400 square foot plan configuration addresses the modular lab/classroom needs with a loop circulation scheme that provides for future reconfiguration options in the academic center cores. The distribution of informal study areas scattered off the halls adjacent to the lab/classrooms offers spontaneous interactive learning opportunities.

The open bi-level entrance lobby works as a hinge between the northern and southern parts of the building and provides a lower level entrance from the residence halls to the west and a main mid-level campus entrance to the east. Natural light is an important component and is accessed on all four sides of the building. The favored north light is reserved for the faculty offices, while the east and south light is filtered through glazed hallways into lab/classrooms via borrowed lights.
