Historic: Potosi Brewery

Potosi, WI

The building was in dilapidated condition; it was without a roof and upper floors and the masonry walls were caving in. The restoration and rehabilitation of the Potosi Brewery began with a dream and a Historic Structure Report prepared by Bill White (deceased) in 2002. Using this document as a master plan River Architects developed a phased implementation that took into consideration the needs of the Potosi Brewery Foundation and the American Breweriana Association, both of which were to house museums in the building.

The exterior appearance of the building is restored to its 1921-1972 period of historic significance and the interior now houses the aforementioned museums along with the Great River Road Interpretive Center and the Potosi Brewery Restaurant and Micro-Brewery. The interior is designed to reflect the industrial feel of the original building while providing a backdrop for the extensive collections on display. The project was completed in 2008.
