From its size – more than 189,000 square feet – to its technology, everything about Centennial Hall is impressive.

The most impressive being its dedication to sustainability, a commitment rewarded with a LEED Gold certification.

The C-shaped floor plan and building facades are deliberately positioned and opened to harvest as much natural light as possible to reduce the need for artificial illumination. The building envelope and systems are designed to be 30 percent more energy efficient than the State of Wisconsin Energy Code.

Landscaping includes bio-infiltration basins designed to remove suspended solids from storm water runoff. These basins allow runoff to enter the soil where it recharges groundwater and restores soil moisture for plants within.

Centennial Hall, completed in 2011, includes low flow toilets, urinals, and faucets to reduce water consumption. A solar-powered water heater warms all water used in the buildings. There are also hydration stations located throughout to make filling water bottles easy. Centennial Hall is strategically positioned at the center of the campus, housing state-of-the-art general access classrooms and departments to support the mission of the university. More than 60 percent of the facility is occupied by 46 classrooms, ranging in size from 40-seat settings to 250-seat auditoriums, equipped with the latest educational technology.
