Cana Island Lighthouse Honored with Award

River Architects, Inc., is proud to announce one of its projects was recently honored as one of the Top Projects of 2015 by The Daily Reporter.

The Cana Island Light Station in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin, was carefully and thoughtfully restored to its original luster, with River Architects working diligently to follow the federal standards for the restoration process. The light station has illuminated the Lake Michigan coastline of Door County for more than 146 years. The Keeper’s Residence and Light Tower were constructed on the remote 8.7-acre site in 1869 of Cream City brick. The Light Station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, and the historic restoration project is a phased implementation effort which started with the rehabilitation of the exterior envelopes of the Keeper’s Residence and the Light Tower.

Strict adherence to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties had to be maintained, and with that, all window and door openings were rehabilitated to conform to those requirements in order to match the historic design and proportions of the original units.
