Three River Architects Libraries Listed as Tour-Worthy

Three of River Architects’ library projects made the Southeastern Wisconsin Libraries (SEWI) list of 39 tour-worthy libraries in Wisconsin. Somerset Public Library, in Somerset; Rosemary Garfoot Public Library, in Cross Plains; and Elroy Public Library, in Elroy, are highlighted.

River Architects has been involved in more than 20 library projects since our first public library project in 1983. We’ve delivered functional, resourceful, and inspirational library environments to a variety of communities and campuses.

In the IFLS Library System, River Architect’s Somerset Library project included renovation and an addition to triple the size of the building. The original portion of the library was converted into meeting spaces, including a makerspace, storytime room, and large multipurpose room.

In the South Central Library System, Rosemary Garfoot Library is the first LEED Silver library is Wisconsin. Sustainable features include the circulation desk countertop which appears to be granite, but is actually recycled paper, and the floors which are covered with renewable cork. The insulation is made from recycled blue jeans and the carpeting is laid in removable squares for piece repair.

In the Winding Rivers Library System, Elroy’s library expanded a historic Carnegie Library built in 1907. The building was expanded on the back side, into a hill, providing parking and ground level entrance.
