Civic: Poage Park

La Crosse, WI

The City of La Crosse invested in the restoration of a neighborhood park that was in need of rejuvenation, and with that engaged River Architects to create a vision for a welcoming community space. As part of a neighborhood revitalization project, the park was transformed with a new shelter, accessible playground equipment, landscaping, lighting, and a splash pad. A special feature in the park is a unique sculpture designed and created by Elmer Petersen, dedicated to the park’s namesake, George C. Poage, the first African American to medal in an Olympic games, and an 1899 graduate of La Crosse High School.
